What this page is
People ask for a Slack alternative in public every week, usually because of open-source or EU-based options, data residency, and self-hosting. We list the real posts so you can read what they need. Some are questions (marked Asking); others are people answering, comparing or launching a team chat app. We don't sell or rank any of the tools mentioned.
Sources covered

FAQ
What are the best Slack alternatives?
We don't rank products and haven't tested them. Tools people commonly name as Slack alternatives include Zulip, Mattermost, Rocket.Chat, Element (Matrix), Microsoft Teams. The posts on this page show what real people asked and recommended in the last 90 days; read the threads and judge for yourself.
Why do people look for a Slack alternative?
In the posts we see, the usual reasons are open-source or EU-based options, data residency, and self-hosting. Open a few of the threads above for the specifics.
Where do these posts come from?
The snapshot comes from the official Stack Exchange and Bluesky APIs, queried from our server. When you open the page, your browser also queries Hacker News, GitHub, Stack Exchange and Bluesky directly and merges what it finds. No Reddit or X: their APIs need paid commercial agreements and we don't scrape.
How do you decide which posts count?
A post has to name Slack right next to an asking phrase: "Slack alternative", "alternative to Slack", "switch from Slack" or "replace Slack". Repo-trending bots are removed. Posts that read like questions are marked "Asking"; the rest are people answering, comparing or launching. It's a keyword heuristic, not AI.
I build a team chat app. Can AskHound send me new posts like these?
Yes. A Solo plan ($19/mo) watches up to 3 searches such as "slack alternative" on Stack Exchange and Bluesky and emails you only posts you haven't seen (beta). Pro ($49/mo) adds hourly checks (beta) and Slack, Discord or webhooks. Reply by hand, disclose that you build the product, and answer the question first.
