Search results: the website tool, CLI and local MCP query Hacker News, Stack Exchange, Bluesky and GitHub directly from your device. We never receive those results. The remote MCP fetches Stack Exchange and Bluesky on request and returns results without storing them.

What we store: anonymous usage events (page views, searches counted without results, clicks) with a random browser id; a count of CLI package downloads (no IP or user agent stored); for the CLI/local MCP, a daily ping with a random install id and version (opt out: ASKHOUND_TELEMETRY=0 or DO_NOT_TRACK=1; the same switches skip the daily update check, a plain request for the static /version.json that we don't log); for the remote MCP, a salted one-way hash used only to count distinct clients (we don't store your IP); where a visit came from (the utm_ tags and any affiliate ?ref= code in the link, kept in your browser for 60 days and passed to Stripe as a checkout reference so a sale can be credited); your license record (plan, Stripe checkout id, email from Stripe for support and refunds); if you use cloud sync, your reply-state (conversation URLs, status, optional notes); and, for watches, the search terms, the delivery address (email or webhook URL) and the URLs of posts already sent to you, used only to skip repeats; and, for free-tier limits, a daily counter keyed by a salted one-way hash of your IP that changes every day (we never store the IP).

Email digests: sent through a transactional email provider (Resend) once enabled. Every digest has a one-click unsubscribe.

Processors: Vercel (hosting, storage, analytics), Stripe (payments), Resend (email digests, once enabled). We don't sell data or use it for ads.

Deletion: reply to your receipt email and we will delete your license and sync data.
